Historic rural roads are defined as those roads outside towns shown on the second edition of the Ordnance Survey, which have not undergone significant widening or straightening in the intervening period. ‘Roads’ in this context refer to the highway itself as well as any associated pavements or cycle paths, verges, banks, ditches and boundary features.
